About Engawala Art Centre
Engawala Art Centre Aboriginal Corporation is a not-for-profit business that aims to preserve and promote Aboriginal cultural values of the Engawala area. We encourage participation by Aboriginal people in the arts and promote local Aboriginal arts to the wider community.
We bring together community members to develop arts related enterprises involving art sales, exhibitions, tourism experiences and cultural maintenance.
The Centre provides employment and income for artists in a community where unemployment is very high and there are very few job opportunities.
Artists work at the Centre creating paintings, pottery, screen printed materials and other artworks. The Centre relocated two years ago to an old Supermarket which was renovated as an Art Centre and Gallery where visitors can browse and purchase artworks. It has plenty of space and is in a central location in the community, opposite the present community store. You can find us at 24 Webb Street Engawala, north of the Plenty Highway, north east of Alice Springs.
