Cazaria Rita Vincent Nanyi
Karungkarni Art and CultureMy name is Cazaria Rita Vincent (Nanyi). I was born in the old clinic at Kalkaringi in 2003.
This year is my first working as an Artworker at the art centre, and producing paintings in my me time.
My grandfather was Gurindji, my grandmother was Mudburra. I grew up with them for most of my childhood. I used to travel around with them a lot, they were like my parents. Down from Daguragu and all the way up to my grandmother’s country. I spent my third birthday out in the bush at Partuwartu.
I first went to school at Kalkaringi, and then went off to boarding school at Kormilda in Darwin. I really enjoyed doing all my school subjects, especially woodwork, art, sports and science.
I used to be around my grandmother (Noeleen Newry) and my mum (Amanda Newry) when they would do their paintings, I would look at them and want to join but they told me I was too young. They told me, your time will come.
Now I create art that is connected to the land.
It makes me feel this connection. To land, to family, learning new things.
We are the next generation.
