SEVANNA CARRINGTON
Warmun Art CentreBorn on January 1999, Sevanna Carrington is an emerging artist whose work is deeply rootedin her rich cultural heritage and family legacy. Raised in Warrarmurn (Warmun), where she has lived her entire life, Sevanna’s connection to her ancestral lands and stories has shaped her artistic journey from an early age. She began painting at just eight years old, using traditional ochre paints to express her connection to the land, culture, and the generations that came before her. Now, at mid 20’s, she continues to create, drawing inspiration from her mother, Charlene Carrington, as well as her grandmother Sade and great-grandmother Betty Carrington- respected artists who have shaped the artistic landscape of Warmun. Sevanna’s artwork is a vibrant reflection of her dual heritage. Her mother, a Gija woman fromTexas Downs Station, and her father, who hails from the Derby region and is a member of the Ngarinyin clan, have both influenced Sevanna’s creative expression. Her paintings celebrate the stories and landscapes of both her maternal and paternal cultures, blending elements from the Ngarrgooroon and Ngarinyin peoples with her unique artistic voice. As a proud mother to her four-year-old daughter, Meira, Sevanna is dedicated to passing on the cultural knowledge, stories, and artistic passion she inherited from her family. Her work is atestament to the power of art as a medium for storytelling, cultural preservation, and personal expression.
