This painting is from Laŋarra and belongs to artists Wobulkarra clan. He explains “during the wet season the dirrpu (Nymphoides, a root food similar to waterlily) grows big and you can swim around and dive for that food. We eat the root – you can cut it open, it’s yellow on the inside. It’s sort of like a yam – it tastes nice and makes you healthy. In the closed flowers we can see the seeds, purple or black, and we can eat that. We cut the flower to make a pipe to drink the water”.
Dirrpu ŋätha (food from the Nymphoides) is also a manikay that Wobulkarra sing.
