The hard wood of the Mirntiwirri or Ngirirri (Boomerang Tree – Hakea arborescens) is especially good for making boomerang called kurrupartu.

The fruit are called ngarlaka. They are used as medicine to treat small children. The fruit are scraped and the scrapings mixed with water and this mixture is applied to children. It makes them strong and helps them start walking. The fruit are also boiled up in flour tins and babies are made to sit in the buckets once the liquid is cooled down. This also strengthens their legs and hips and helps them start walking. The wood may be burnt to ash and the ash mixed with water and heated up with termite mound called tamarra or hot earth baked under a fire to form a warm, slightly moist mix.
