Old stories tell us that this is a place where women come to give birth, and newborns immediately form a connection with the land. This grass is known as Blady grass, and in our Kokoberra language, Pukun Kolpon. This grass holds great sacred significance for my community. Men should avoid hunting in this area; they must go to another location to stay clear of the grass. According to tales from my great-grandmother and grandmother, when women give birth here, they prepare the grass and saltwater to cut the umbilical cord as cleanly and carefully as possible. We also consume the roots of the Blady grass.
